Before erecting a new memorial or adding a new inscription to an existing memorial, a memorial permit form must be submitted to the relevant Church, Council or Chapel Authority.
Church in Wales, Council Authorities and Chapel Cemeteries will have individual rules about the type of memorial, material, inscription or the size allowed for your grave so it is important to check before ordering.
A memorial fee may also be payable for the erection of a memorial or additional inscription. The memorial fee will differ depending on the location of the memorial. We can assist in determining the fees for your chosen cemetery.
We will provide you with a memorial permit form for the cemetery/churchyard. The form which must be signed by the registered grave owner.
If the grave owner has passed away then a transfer of ownership will be required. We will assist on the process of transferring grave ownership.
We will submit the form on your behalf and include details of the proposed memorial, CAD Drawings including the dimensions and fixings of the memorial and the proposed inscription.
Please note a memorial works cannot begin until the memorial permit has been approved by the relevant Church, Council or Chapel Authority.
You may need to wait at least six months from the burial before a new memorial can be placed on the grave. This gives the ground time to settle and consolidate. This period may differ around the country due to differing soil types and conditions; we will advise if a memorial can be fixed before 6 months.
We advise to wait at least 3 months before re-fixing an existing memorial.
